Students in Action: Husky Student Leadership Summit

Empowering your Inner Husky

Rachael Scicchitano
To me, attending the 8th annual Husky Student Leadership Summit was one of the most valuable ways I have spent a Saturday during my time at Bloomsburg University. Notice I said the 8th annual summit? Yes, this summit has been going on for the past eight years, and as a senior I could slap myself for not becoming a part of this incredible experiencesooner.

Career Closet

It’s almost the end of March already, and I don’t know about you, but I feel like this semester is flying by. Olivia and I have been talking recently about the many students we’re meeting who are just about to graduate and are beginning their job search. We also just helped facilitate a very successful Education Consortium, a job fair for students who are about to graduate with degrees from the College of Education. All of this buzz about job search and interviewing prompted us to think about how important it is to leave a good impression on a potential employer.
The first step in creating a lasting and excellent impression is to select an appropriate outfit for your first meeting. Research shows that within the first 4 to 9 minutes of an interview, a recruiter decides whether or not to seriously consider you for the position based on your appearance alone. So much of that first impression, particularly if you are meeting a potential employer in a job fair setting, relies on your appearance, so the outfit you choose is paramount to your success.

Here are some basic guidelines to interview attire:

Worried that you might not have the right attire? Don’t stress! We have a Career Closet on campus, now located on the first floor of the Fenstemaker Alumni House, that has plenty of interview-friendly outfits for both men and women. These clothes are new or gently used, and have been donated by Bloomsburg University faculty, staff, and alumni. Any outfit you choose (limit of one per student) is yours to keep. Please come visit us at the Alumni House so we can help you pick out the apparel that will get you hired!
We also have plenty of resources to help you prepare for those tricky interview questions!

The Fenstemaker Alumni House is located just past the Rec Center, map found here.
